I enjoy using biographies in our homeschool. I think they promote a number of positive values as well as teach history. I believe a good biography inspires children to dream, work hard and perservere through adversity. However, I have found it difficult to find books which describe specific historical figures in a manner that both my young children enjoy and that I find educational. Then I discovered this series. I have especially enjoyed David Adler's Picture Book Biographies because they are so thorough in regards to content yet entertaining for children. My children (as young as 4 years old) and I enjoy reading them together. A child with a reading ability of at least 2nd grade might enjoy them as independent reading. Despite their name, Picture Book Biographies, they can be used by older children because the content is very complete. You can find many of Mr. Adler's books at the library, but we have purchased several of because they are fairly inexpensive and full of information. My kids use them as resources but also just enjoy re-reading them. A definite MUST on our homeschool reading list. These popular David Adler biographies have numerous titles including:
