Christmas in the Big Woods
My First Little House Book

This picture book adaption of the Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House in the Big Woods tells the story of the Ingalls' Christmas in the Big Woods of Wisconsin. The story depicts the simple but beautiful Christmas from Mrs. Wilder's childhood in the Big Woods.

REVIEW
I love this series of books because it introduces an even younger age group to my all time favorite author/book series: Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House on the Prairie. The stories are simpler than the chapter books, but equally engaging.

This story depicts the Christmas stories taken from Mrs. Wilder's "Little House in the Big Woods" book. We enjoy reading this story at Christmas time because its heartwarming description of the Ingalls' sharing all of the joys of Christmas. We like to read about a simpler time and place and to recall the pure pleasure of the season -- giving precious gifts to our loved ones and spending time together.

The My First Little House book stories are short enough to introduce even the youngest readers to a most beloved classic series as well as entertain the reader with a story about days gone by.

The illustrations in these books are warm and colorful, and while not done by Garth Williams, they are reminiscent of his signature illustrations in the chapter books.

My boys have enjoyed reading these My First Little House books over and over -- first by me and then independently! They were a great introduction into the longer chapter books. Like many picture books they are appropriate for very young children (2 years +) but entertaining for children of all ages because of their pretty pictures and sweet stories.
