This story depicts a girl recalling her memories of Christmases spent with her grandparents on their farm. The imagery of the characters enjoying cocoa and cookies, decorating the house and tree, singing at church illicit a warm feeling of home.

Cynthia Rylant is one of our favorite authors (Henry and Mudge, Lighthouse Family) and this book definitely ranks as one of our favorites. You can almost smell the moth ball scented ornaments or feel the warmth of the coal stove and the pokes of the too large Christmas tree as you skirt around it in their small living room. It made me recall fondly some of our family's holiday traditions. So well written. A definite heart warmer and a great addition to any Christmas book collection.
