For Instructions in Righteousness

by: Pam Forster

This book is a wonderful resource for parents trying to raise their children biblically. It is a topical reference guide for parents regarding various behaviors requiring discipline. It is divided into 53 chapters and each chapter addresses a specific behavior.

First the author identifies the sin (i.e. pride) and gives a number of verses which describe that particular sin. Next she lists verses that detail what the Bible says will happen to a person with this sin. Then she identifies the opposite virtue (i.e. if the sin was pride the opposite virtue would be humility) and goes on to explain what the benefits of the virtue are by citing Bible verses. Finally the author lists verses to memorize.
Some of the sins listed are pride, lying, disobedience, arguing, judging others, selfishness, etc.

REVIEW
We love this resource! It is a comprehensive guide to biblically address a great number of common problems that parents deal with on a daily basis. Each sin/virtue lists many applicable verses and even has them conveniently written out for you. I especially like the inclusion of the opposite virtue. Biblically we are called to not only identify our children's sin but to train them to live another way, to a higher standard. I think the opposite virtue concept is so key in this process but is often missing. This book makes it easy to include that in your child training and really can assist parents as they try to help their children learn what the Lord says about righteous living.

We have found this book invaluable as we purpose to sow the Word of God into our children as we train them and lovingly encourage them in their young Christian walk. Of course the Bible is the ultimate resource but Ms. Forester has created a convenient, well organized resource for parents to utilize as they train their children what God has to say about both sinful and viturous behaviors.
