Teaching With JoyBooks ... Hitty: Her First Hundred Years | ||
|
by Rachel Field illustrated by Dorothy P. Lathrop copyright 1929; John Newberry Medal 1930 - "the most distinguished contribution to American Literature for Children" in that season. A good independent read for grades 2 and up, a good read-aloud for the whole family! Review by Becca, age 10 Hitty is a doll made of Mountain Ash wood. She tells the story. She writes it from the desk that belongs to the lady in the antique shop. Hitty writes about the last hundred years of her life. First, she lived with a girl named Phoebe Preble whose father was a sea captain. The family went to India and Hitty was lost. Hitty has many more adventures until she is bought at an auction and taken to the antique shop. It was a very good book. I hope you will enjoy it too. After reading the book, you may want to visit: www.hittypreble.com or www.hitty.org for more information.
