Robert McCloskey

We love reading these stories! Homer Price is a hysterical book about the adventures of a boy by the same name in the fictional town of Centerburg somewhere in the midwest in the 1940's. The book is made up of six chapters, each a story in itself, which makes it a perfect chapter book for reading aloud. Let's see...there is the story of a pet skunk named "Aroma", a doughnut making machine that just wouldn't quit, and a retelling of the "Pied Piper of Hamelin."
Somehow this very ordinary boy ends up in the middle of these fantastic events and often saves the day. The author, Robert McCloskey, has a great sense of humor that really comes through here. He also wrote a second book about life in this little town called Centerburg Tales. And by the way, he is the author of several well known books for the younger set like: Lentil, Make Way for Ducklings, Blueberries for Sal, and One Morning in Maine.
