by Marguerite De Angeli

Ship wrecks, pirates, buried treasure, orphans, runaways, Indians...what more can you ask for? A fun adventuresome book which also manages to teach the importance of family - both the one we are born into and the ones we are sometimes adopted into. We all need to belong somewhere. This book was first published in 1947 and takes place somewhere in the colonial or early American time period. Great as an independent read for a 2nd or 3rd grader and up - as a read aloud: great for all ages!
