Jumping Ship: What To Do So Your Children Don't Jump Ship To the World When They Get Older
by Michael and Debi Pearl

What a great metaphor...our family is the crew of a ship on which we are traveling through life, with Dad as the captain. It was very helpful to me to look at our family this way, however, I have one disclaimer before you read this book. If you are not familiar with the Pearl family or No Greater Joy Ministries, it may be helpful for you to know that Michael Pearl's writing style is very direct and to the point. Some people are offended by his bluntness. Yet, despite this, I think there is value in what he has to say here. If you can see past that and try to look for some concepts that could help your family...I think you will be rewarded.

The title seems to describe the book adequately, but here is a little extra information from the back cover:
Michael Pearl "has ministered to three generations, watching them grow from children to parents themselves. He and his wife Debi were among the pioneers in the homeschooling movement. But there is a troubling trend that is rising up in some of the 'back to the basics' homeschool crowd. Their children are discontent and rebellious, jumping ship as soon as they think they can survive without the family - some as young as sixteen years old. Parents are crying, 'Where did we go wrong? What can we do to prevent this happening to the rest of our children?' Michael addressed this issue in several articles published in 2006 in the No Greater Joy Magazine. The articles proved so popular and helpful that Michael edited them further, added new material, and included two new chapters covering issues not previously addressed."
