by: Steve and Teri Maxwell

Just Around the Corner is a collection of short essays that the Maxwells wrote for their local support group newsletter. They had so many requests for back issues of their columns that they compiled several years worth of writings into this book.

Each essay is just a page or two long (great for those times when you only have a few minutes to read) but each addresses issues common among Christian homes.

There are specific issues related to homeschooling (i.e. scheduling, school year planning, child dawdling, summer school) but most of the issues are just regular parenting issues such as cherishing your children, pleasant discipling or weariness.

The book is broken into a 'Mom's Corner' and a 'Dad's Corner'. In Mom's Corner Teri addresses issues many Christian women struggle with such as being a controlling wife, depression, discouragement, obtaining a meek and quiet spirit, and the importance of time with the Lord.

Some of the Dad's Corner topics include a Dad's power and authority, a man's identity, communicating with your family, anger, and loving your wife.

The Maxwells recommend that women read only the Mom's Corner unless otherwise directed by her husband. I believe this is to help preserve peace at home. :)

REVIEW
I really enjoyed this book. It is a collection of short essays so it is easy to pick up and put down. You can read it for 10 minutes and really feel like you learned something. Some of the topics from the Maxwell's other books are reflected in these writings (i.e. scheduling, the importance of a meek and quiet spirit, preparing sons to to husbands, winning your child's heart). One might find these essays to be a bit redundant if you've read all of their other material. However, I found it a great reminder of books that I had already read by the Maxwells and an encouragement to seek further reading on those topics/books that I hadn't read yet.

There is a wide variety of topics covered in this book and the Maxwell's easy, unassuming spirits shine through the pages. I truly enjoy their writings. I find them honest, real, and Biblically based. I hope this book blesses and encourages you and your family.
