by: Lois Ehlert

This fun and beautifully illustrated book takes the reader through the journey of a leaf as it blows in the autumn wind. Each page has leaves configured in different forms representing things/animals that you might see on a journey of the wind on a fall day.

This is one of our favorite fall books. The illustrations are imaginative yet realistic and wonderful! Sometimes you have to look twice to find the animal hidden in the leaves. The pages are cut so that they build upon each other and create a really beautiful fall scene as you go along through the book. Ms. Ehlert even includes the names of all of the leaves that she used in illustrating the book so that you can use the book to help identify leaves in your own collection. She even goes as far as to label 'unknown' leaves she found and used. For example: 'Mystery Leaf: found in northern woods of Wisconsin'. We enjoyed that because it we felt like it was ok to have some leaves that we couldn't identify in our leaf books but could still include because we liked them!

We love to read this book and imagine where the leaves from our yard are going. We have used this book as a guide for leaf identification or as a 'spark' before a nature walk. We also love to make leaf men or other animals as a fun fall craft. The book inspires us! :)
