Teaching With JoyMath ... Math U See | ||
Math U SeeSteve Demme Math U See is a hands on math curriculum that emphasizes both fact memorization as well as conceptual learning and problem solving. Grades Preschool- Sr. High (Pre-Calculus). New products include honors enhancement books for pre-algebra, algebra 1 and 2, and geometry as well as Stewardship Math (38 devotions and 30 lessons covering a variety of math applications in the life of a consumer). REVIEW My kids enjoy watching the videos and 'Mr. Steve' is an engaging teacher. We work at each child's pace doing practice pages as needed. I like that each lesson has 3 pages of review so that the student doesn't forget previously learned concepts. The test booklet also supplies an additional resource for testing or just practice. Math U See is an investment. The system has specialized blocks that you must purchase (starter set is 30.00, completer set is an additional 35.00) as well as the video/dvd/teacher manual (35.00), student book/test book (20.00). You do not have to purchase the teacher book or test booklet separately. You can often find this curriculum used although the format was recently changed so be aware that you might be purchasing the older format when buying used. To my knowledge the only place to purchase this program new is through the Math U See Website/area representative or from a homeschool conference. The initial cost of Math U See can be off set if you plan on using the system for more than one child (you only need to purchase the blocks and video/dvd one time) or if you resell it when you are done. We have found benefit from the Math U See program and in my experience with supervising homeschool families many other people have found success with it as well. We have not used the high school curriculum but due to our success with this program in the elementary grades we plan on looking at it when we reach that level. I highly recommend this program.
