Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland
by Tomie DePaola

"Many years ago, during the time of the Christian Roman Empire, there lived a boy named Patrick. He lived with his noble family in Britain, near the Irish sea..."

Filled with Tomie DePaola's beautiful illustrations, this book does a great job of answering this question: "Who was St. Patrick?" We learn about when in history he lived and his kidnapping as a child. He manages to escape, but returns to his captors in Ireland as a missionary. His life was a great adventure lived for God. We especially enjoyed the story of St. Patrick using the shamrock to teach about the Trinity. By reading this book each year, we have been able to give our children a historic context for St. Patrick's life and make St. Patrick's Day about more than just wearing green on
March 17.
