This series is a good basic spelling program. Going along with the title, the books have a sports theme. They are consumable workbooks with some color and pictures, but not to the point of distraction. We use few workbooks, but this is a subject that seems to lend itself to independent work and we use more teacher intensive methods with other subjects. The books have about 35 chapters, each with a spelling list. Start each week in your homeschool with a new lesson and practice spelling and using the words in the activities included. Somewhere near the end of the week have your student practice writing the word list on paper, a dry-erase board, in sand - even orally, "spelling bee" style. Then end the week with a spelling test - written if you want to keep it for your records or on the dry erase board (nothing is more fun over here at our house!) or once again, orally spelling bee style. Although the books have letter names - level A roughly corresponds to first grade, level B to second grade, etc. Look into Spelling Workout, Level A; Spellling Workout, Level C; and Spelling Workout, Level D too!
