by: Laura Ingalls Wilder My First Little House Book This picture book adaption of the Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House in the Big Woods tells the story of the Ingalls' adventures with sugar snow. A late snow helps the trees make more sap for maple syrup, and maple syrup means sweet sugar cakes and sticky fingers for Laura! Doris Ettlinger's illustrations, inspired by Garth Williams's artwork, perfectly capture Laura and her family in this My First Little House Book. REVIEW The My First Little House book stories are short enough to introduce even the youngest readers to a most beloved classic series as well as entertain the reader with a story about days gone by. The illustrations in these books are warm and colorful and while not done by Garth Williams they are reminiscent of his signature illustrations in the chapter books. My boys have enjoyed reading these My First Little House books over and over -- first by me then independently! They were a great introduction into the longer chapter books. Like many picture books they are appropriate for very young children (2 years +) but entertaining for children of all ages because of their pretty pictures and sweet stories.
