My favorite thing about this book is that it connects the commonly seen candy cane with the story of Jesus and His love and sacrifice for us. After hearing this book read, I hope that every time they see a candy cane it will be a reminder to my children of how much God loves them.
The story and ilustrations are sweet and nostalgic. A stranger arrives in a little town on a dreary November night and begins the job of readying an empty storefront for business. Many of the townspeople have hopes for who he might be, including the children. A little girl named Lucy befriends him and becomes his helper. Then just in time for Christmas, they reveal his identity, the purpose of his shop, and the story behind the candy cane.
Included at the end of the book is the history of the candy cane going back over 350 years ago.
