My First Little House Books

This picture book adaption of the beloved Little House on the Prairie series chronicles the adventures of Laura's future husband Almanzo on his family's farm in rural New York.In Winter on the Farm, Almanzo goes through his afternoon barn chores, and then sits down to eat a hearty farm supper with his family.

REVIEW
I love this series of books because it introduces an even younger age group to my all time favorite author/book series Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House on the Prairie. The story is simple. It is just a few scenes taken from Mrs. Wilder's Farmer Boy book. However it is enough to introduce even the youngest readers to a most beloved classic series as well as detail a day in the life of a young boy and his farming family in the late 19th century.

The illustrations are warm and colorful and while not done by Garth Williams they are reminiscent of his signature illustrations in the chapter books. My boys have enjoyed reading these books over and over -- first by me then independently! They were a great introduction into the longer chapter books. Like many picture books they are appropriate for very young children (2 years +) but entertaining for children of all ages because of their pretty pictures and sweet stories.
